Dear Bob,I wonder if you could bring something to community council tomorrow for me.Each year I help organize a village bonfire at Glan yr Afon. This is well attended from Cefngorwydd/Tirabad/Llangammarch.We make no charge and put on a good firework display. We have had donations in the past from the now disbanded carnival committee, and more latterly I think the c.c. have made a contribution. No doubt there will be a record in the minutes from last year. This is a well attended event open to the whole community and I would be grateful if you would consider making a donation this year to enable us to continue the event free of charge. Many thanks.Regards,Giles

Thanks Giles
You may be aware that we have had some upheaval recently in relation to finding and retaining a Clerk to the Council.
Lynn Phennah has rescued the situation for us on several occasions but we should not impose on her.
I am almost certainly going to have to postpone the scheduled meeting until a few fundamentals have been sorted out. The re-scheduled date is likely to be after the event but  I am sure that we will consider a donation of a similar magnitude.
Sorry Giles - that's all I can promise at this time.
I hope it all goes well on the night.
What I can do is to promote it on our blogsite   http://llangammarch.blogspot.com/
We are currently having around 12 visits per week.  It's free - give me the details -any pics or words and I'll put it on.

Regards

Freemasonry rule unenforcable, AMs warned

THE National Assembly was yesterday warned its position on Freemasonry was legally dubious and ineffective.
The Assembly is the only democratic body in the UK to demand that its members should declare their membership of the Freemasons.
But open government minister Carwyn Jones warned yesterday that the rule would not be backed by legal sanctions.
It is a criminal offence for an AM not to register his member-ship of the Freemasons.
But Mr Jones said no prosecuting authority would take up the case.
"The European Court of Human Rights has found Freemasonry is not a secret society and it is unlikely any prosecuting authority would want to take a prosecution forward," he said. "That means in effect there is no sanction and that is a grave weakness.
"We are probably in a position where non-declaration of member-ship of the Freemasons is less sanctionable than anything else."
Mr Jones, a barrister, was speaking after David Melding resigned as chair of the Assembly's standards committee after AMs rejected the commit-tee's recommendation that the rule of declaring Freemason member-ship should be changed.
Last week AMs voted down a proposal which would have ended the rule singling out Freemasons and brought in a new one forcing AMs to register membership of all private clubs.
Mr Melding warned that the Assembly had left itself open to legal action.
The original rule was recommended by the National Assembly advisory group, which looked at procedures before the Assembly was set up. It called for Freemasons to be singled out because of widespread public concern.
Mr Jones said Mr Melding's decision was honourable.
